Tonsil Procedures
Tonsils play a role in protecting the body from infection, but when they become chronically inflamed or enlarged, they can cause more harm than good. Recurring strep throat, difficulty breathing at night, and persistent throat discomfort are all signs that the tonsils may need to be evaluated.
At Piedmont Ear, Nose, Throat and Related Allergy, we provide comprehensive care for tonsil-related conditions. Whether through careful monitoring or surgical removal (tonsillectomy), our team will guide you toward the most effective treatment for lasting relief.
If you experience frequent sore throats, swollen tonsils, or sleep disruptions, our ENT specialists can help determine if a tonsil procedure is the right solution.
Tonsillectomy
is the surgical removal of tonsils, often recommended for recurrent tonsillitis (five or more episodes in 12 months) or complications like sleep apnea, difficulty swallowing, or chronic obstruction. Our surgeons utilize the Coblation system, an advanced technique that cleanly and efficiently removes tonsils with less trauma to surrounding tissue, leading to significantly reduced pain and a quicker recovery period (typically 1-2 weeks). While risks like dehydration or bleeding are rare, the Coblation system enhances speed, safety, and pain control.
Tonsillectomy and Adenoidectomy
is a combined surgical procedure to remove both the tonsils and adenoids. This is performed when both sets of lymphoid tissues become chronically infected or enlarged, causing symptoms such as recurrent sore throats, nasal obstruction, difficulty breathing and swallowing, and sleep disturbances like snoring or sleep apnea. Our surgeons use the Coblation system for both removals, which provides precise and efficient tissue removal with less trauma, resulting in reduced post-operative pain and a faster recovery. Removing these tissues, when necessary, does not negatively impact the body's overall immunity.
